Reese Witherspoon Struck by a Car While Jogging

Reese Witherspoon is recovering after being struck by a car while jogging Wednesday morning. The 35-year-old “suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment,” said Santa Monica Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis, as quoted by NBC LA.

Witherspoon was jogging in Santa Monica around 11 a.m. in an unmarked crosswalk when an elderly woman hit her at about 20 mph. The actress was taken to a hospital where she was treated and discharged.

Reports say the 84-year-old driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian and released.

Witherspoon sat down with Marie Claire for an interview in their October issue, released online today. The actress spoke about her divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe. She also discussed her March marriage to Hollywood agent Jim Toth.

“I was hard on myself when I got divorced. And until I got remarried, I don’t think I realized how stressed I was,” Witherspoon said. “I don’t think I recognized how anxious I was about being a single parent.”

Witherspoon became anxious after the divorce when a close confidant told her no man would accept her two children, with ex-husband Phillippe.

“You know, somebody close to me once said, ‘Oh, no man will ever accept your children.’ And I just thought it was the most horrifying thing someone has ever said to me in my entire life,” Witherspoon said.

“I was determined to find somebody who would make that not true. And I got lucky. I did. I got very lucky, and he’s wonderful. And so wonderful with the children. I'm very blessed.”

Witherspoon won an Oscar in 2006 for her portrayal of June Carter in the 2005 film “Walk the Line.” She recently became the spokeswoman for the European fashion label Lindex.
