Running Back Adam Muema Skips NFL Scouting Combine; Says He's 'Following God'

Former San Diego State running back Adam Muema recently chose to not work out at an NFL scouting opportunity, saying he's "following God," who told him that if he skips out on the training session, he will play for his dream NFL team, the Seattle Seahawks.

Adam Muema, who formerly played for San Diego State's Aztecs football team, skipped out on Sunday's NFL Scouting Combine workout at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., after he spoke with God. Muema told the local U-T San Diego newspaper that God told him if he didn't work out at the combine, he would eventually be able to play for the Seattle Seahawks.

"Can't go wrong with God," Muema told the newspaper via phone from the Indianapolis International Airport. "He told me to sit down, be quiet and enjoy the peace."

Muema added to the media outlet that the NFL was aware of his decision to not participate in Sunday's practice, where numerous other NFL hopefuls competed in afternoon drills. The college athlete will have the opportunity to show his football skills again at the San Diego Pro Day event next month.

As CBS Sports reports, it is not uncommon for athletes to opt out of training at the combine event. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel announced over the weekend that he wouldn't be throwing at Sunday's practice, saying that he would start throwing at the individual pro day on March 27.

Muema is considered to be a fourth-to-seventh round pick for the upcoming NFL draft. In three seasons with San Diego State, Muema ran 2,955 yards, while in 2013 he ran 1,244 yards and rushed 15 touchdowns. He was ranked NFLDraftScout.com's 30th rated running back, and is San Diego State's fourth player to have multiple 1,000-yard seasons.

CBS points out  that the Seattle Seahawks might have a particularly selective roster for the 2014 season, as they are the reigning Super Bowl champions and have such high-ranking running backs as Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin and Christine Michael.

The Bleacher Report said Muema's move is a "huge risk" for his potential NFL career. "This is without a doubt a huge risk for the Aztecs star. He had a solid career at San Diego State, but nothing he did stands out from the pack of 2014 running backs."
