Matthew

Paras Patel, who plays Jesus’ follower Matthew, revealed that feelings of unworthiness are “always going to be a part” of the disciple, but Jesus tells him to value himself, providing “confidence in him.”

“You’re going to see him grapple with certain obstacles that happen,” Patel said. “In screenings of episodes one, two and three, you'll see a good moment where Matthew is presented with something that he will learn from, and it helps him overcome these challenges, which the audience can learn from. You're going to see him just try to be his best, do his best, because that's what Matthew just really wants to do. He just wants to be the best version of himself.”

“I think Matthew's journey from being this alienated outcast to finally finding his own self-worth and growing in his own spirituality and faith has been parallel with myself,” Patel added. “I am constantly learning in portraying Matthew, just how to, in this season, treat forgiveness and what that looks like, or just be patient with others. It’s about love and showing love, and I think that's what the whole world needs to see, so that way they can practice that."
