“Everyone can relate to this story,” Gugino told CP at “The Mighty Macs” Philadelphia premiere. “What Cathy did with those girls was amazing and is enough to inspire anybody to make their dreams come true.”

Cathy Rush and her team of Catholic school college students overcame numerous obstacles to change the face of sports and become the first women’s basketball team to win numerous championships.

Tim Chambers, director, writer and producer of the movie, said Gugino was the perfect actress to embody the strength shown by Rush in the film.

“I think we had to cast someone that has fire in their belly,” said Chambers, who will make his first big screen directorial debut with the movie. “It was important for us to find the right actress and I think we did.”

David Boreanaz, most known for his leading roles in the television shows “Bones,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” plays Ed Rush, Cathy’s husband in the movie. The actor said the story compelled him to take on the project.

He told CP that seeing the real life Cathy Rush on set inspired him to bring his all to the film.

“I love the story,” Boreanaz said at the Philadelphia movie premiere. “It was great to do scenes with Cathy. I was focused and determined with her on set.”

Rush said she was proud of the film and all the effort that was taken into bringing her story to the big screen.

“[Tim Chambers] really invested seven full years of his life and I couldn't be more proud of the movie," Rush said.
