5. Man faints at White House press conference announcing Medicare, Medicaid coverage of Ozempic
Trump held a press conference in the Oval Office Thursday, where he announced that Medicare and Medicaid would now cover Ozempic and Zepbound, which he referred to as the “fat drug.”
Trump insisted that co-payments for the weight loss drugs for Medicare patients could be as low as $50, while Americans not on Medicare or Medicaid would also see their drug prices decrease as manufacturers Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk have agreed to offer the drugs at most favored nation pricing, meaning that Americans will pay the lowest price anywhere in the world.
The press conference also revealed that the drug manufacturers Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk would invest $27 billion and $10 billion, respectively, to build manufacturing facilities in the U.S. While most of the press conference focused on the impact of these developments on Americans’ access to the weight loss drugs, the press conference was temporarily paused when one of the drug company executives fainted in the Oval Office.
Trump commented on the situation when the press conference resumed: “One of the representatives of … one of the companies got a little bit light-headed. You saw he went down. They just sent him out. He’s got doctor’s care. He’s fine.”
