Conor McGregor Announces He's Back for UFC 200, Dana White Disagrees

It's hard to believe what Conor McGregor says these days, and there's no one else to blame but himself. After causing a social media frenzy by announcing his retirement from the UFC, the trash-talking Irish fighter now tells everyone that he's back and will be fighting on the UFC 200 card – the same event he was supposed to be headlining. The 27-year old fighter announced via Twitter on Monday that he will in fact be fighting on the July 9 Las Vegas card.

But not so fast.

Although UFC headman Dana White didn't explicitly deny McGregor's reinstatement in the card, the fight promotion did issue a statement regarding the announcement, saying that the tweet wasn't accurate. In an interview with TMZ Sports, White revealed that they haven't been in contact with the fighter or any of his representatives. "We haven't talked to Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don't know why he would tweet that," he said.

Per ESPN report, McGregor was supposed to do a rematch with Nate Diaz on the card, but was scraped off by the UFC after refusing to fly to Las Vegas in order to promote the event. White himself announced in a press conference last week that McGregor will no longer be part of it.

Diaz Reacts

Diaz for his part didn't entertain the offer from White to go on with the fight but with a different opponent. He insisted that he only wants to fight McGregor and no one else. This was the expected outcome right after the Irish tweeted several days back that he's retiring, which by now probably meant that he was not in agreement with the UFC about promotional duties. Diaz responded with his own tweet, saying that he might as well take a vacation, too.

For mixed martial arts fans, this is what they love about McGregor – his theatrics and natural ability to make everyone talk about him. Whether it seems illogical to put him back on the card, it honestly is the choice the UFC is likely to make.
