Dustin Hoffman Cancer Reveal Shocks Fans, Actor 'Cured'

Dustin Hoffman is recovering from a successful cancer treatment, according to his rep on Tuesday.

The actor's recovery comes as a surprise and a relief to his fans since the 75-year-old had not publicly announced the illness.

"It was detected early and he has been surgically cured," Hoffman's rep Jodi Gottlieb told People.com. "Dustin is feeling great and is in good health."

Gottlieb declined to comment further on what kind of cancer or treatments Hoffman was undergoing. However, the actor will heed doctor-recommended preventative treatments to reduce chances of the cancer's return.

Hoffman's fans were even more surprised over the news since the actor has not showed any signs of slowing down in spite of the illness.

"The Graduate" star made his directorial debut last year with "Quartet" and just recently finished filming "Chef" alongside Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr.

Furthermore, this fall, Hoffman will begin filming Roald Dahl's "Esio Trot," which also stars Judi Dench, before production begins on his other feature film, "Boys Choir."

As for his first directorial project, Hoffman compared himself to other actors who want to get behind the camera.

"I would develop stuff like every other actor … and put it aside," he said during an appearance on "Good Morning America."

"The most important part of it is when you're in your 30s and 40s and 50s, you think you've got all the time in the world," the actor continued. "Suddenly, you're 75- and so you [gotta do it] or get off the pot."

Meanwhile, Hoffman won two best actor Oscar Awards for his role in 1979's "Kramer vs. Kramer" and in 1988's "Rain Man."

"Quartet" starred Maggie Smith and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The drama comedy won the Chicago International Film Festival's Audience Choice Award as well as the Hollywood Film Festival's Hollywood Breakthrough Award, among others.
