George Michael Accident: Singer Released From Hospital

George Michael left the hospital after two weeks of treatment as a result of injuries sustained from a car accident in England on May 16.

The pop singer was traveling as a passenger in a Land Rover when reports indicated he fell out of SUV on the M1 motorway just outside of London during rush hour.

"We can confirm that George Michael has been discharged from hospital and continues to rest and recuperate," read a message on the singer's website on Wednesday. "He is well and thanks everyone for all the messages of support."

At the time of the accident, Michael was airlifted to a specialist trauma center in London for head injuries, according to the BBC.

Beforehand, a witness tended to the 49-year-old singer while he lay bleeding on the road.

"He had a deep cut above his left eyebrow which was really bleeding down his face," receptionist Katherine Fox told BBC last week. "Even if I had known who it was, I probably wouldn't have recognized him."

Alternately, Michael's publicist said that his injuries were "superficial cuts and bruises," according to Sky News.

The car accident was the latest in a string of accidents and health scares for the "Freedom" singer. Last year, the superstar nearly died after contracting pneumonia in Vienna.

After spending a month in intensive care for pneumonia, Michael canceled a tour of Australia due to "major anxiety" brought on by the health scare.

Furthermore, in September 2010, Michael was sentenced to eight weeks in prison after crashing his Range Rover into a shop in north London the previous July. He was also banned from driving for five years after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and possessing cannabis.

Michael, born Georgios Panayiotou, is best known for founding the pop duo Wham! Before releasing his first solo hit single "Careless Whisper."

The English musician, singer and songwriter is one of the world's best-selling music artists, and his debut solo album "Faith" has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
