'GTA 6' Rumors: Game Unlikely to Arrive Next Year

While Rockstar Games has never announced as to when it will release "Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6)," it is now speculated that the game will be further delayed and will not be released next year.

There is no denying that "GTA 6" is one of the most highly anticipated game sequels. With its predecessor, "GTA 5," released in 2013, many speculated that the next "GTA" title would arrive in 2018 as there had been an average of five-year gap between the releases of the previous "GTA" games.

Although it is true that it will have been five years since the last "GTA" game arrived, recent reports claim that Rockstar Games cannot release "GTA 6" in 2018 just yet. For one thing, the studio is set to release another popular game in spring next year, "Red Dead Redemption 2," which was originally slated for release this fall. As "GTA 6" may steal the spotlight away from "Red Dead Redemption 2" if they are released together in the same year, gaming pundits opine that it is unlikely, indeed, for Rockstar Games to release "GTA 6" next year.

However, it is alleged that the biggest culprit why "GTA 6" will be delayed is because Rockstar Games is introducing two new features to the game that will pump up its production cost: AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) features. As "GTA 5" reportedly cost $265 million to develop, it means that "GTA 6" would cost even more in the event that rumors claiming it will come with AR and VR features are true.

As of this writing, Rockstar Games has not released any detail on "GTA 6." While earlier rumors claimed that the game would be set in London, no one really knows whether it will be the case as the studio has been mum about the game at all.

For now, it is suspected that "GTA 6" will arrive in 2020 the earliest. However, this, too, shall be taken with a grain of salt until Rockstar Games confirms so.
