HTC Vive VR Will Launch With 50 Compatible Games

At the recently concluded Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, virtual reality or VR was the hot topic, with developers and the hardware manufacturers talking about what games are coming to VR, particularly to specific VR headsets. Among the VR devices that are upcoming, HTC Vive VR also made it a point to share with participants at the GDC what games were coming to the VR headset when it launches on April 5. According to a report in Fortune, HTC and partner-developer Valve announced and demoed over 30 compatible games at the GDC.

Among the games being showcased include "John Wick: The Impossible Task" and "Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine" demo, a game that is being developed by ILMxLab. The VR headset will also come with three VR games that are free: "Job Simulator," "Fantastic Contraption" and "Google Tilt Brush." For early adopters, there is also "The Lab," which will be provided for free as well. "The Lab," as described in a Tech Times report, is a collection of 12 mini-games, which is set inside Aperture Laboratories, the same setting as "Portal." Some of the games include taking care of a mechanical dog, walking on Mars, and defending a castle.

Aside from what is available for show at the conference, the report also noted that the Steam VR already has 50 developers signed up, each with their own HTC Vive store page. This was revealed by Chet Faliszek of Valve.

According to Faliszek, HTC Vive VR and Valve will not be releasing any game exclusives. For him, exclusives are "not a good thing for the industry, especially in VR where we're starting out with a promise of presence after so many years." He added, "We want to do everything we can to make sure VR succeeds, regardless of the platform."

Among the 30-plus games demoed, Faliszek and several other critics highlighted a few that consumers need to watch out for. These include "Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel," "Hover Junkers," and "The Lab." The Tech Times report goes into detail about these games.
