iPhone 5 Release Date: Will Next iPhone Feature a Fully Functioning Siri After iPhone 4S Beta?

Industry insiders proposed that Siri on the next iPhone could be the full-fledged program of what is currently a beta version on the iPhone 4S.

Recent reports indicate Siri was meant to be exclusive to the iPhone 4S. However, Apple has been experimenting with the program on the iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

Insiders claim that once Siri is further developed, it may be available to the iPhone 4 and other, possibly future, Apple devices.

Technology website Electronista noted Apple admitted the currently released version of Siri is still a beta and is being developed. The website suggested Apple established the 4S exclusivity to manage the load on its servers while it continued Siri's development.

While attempting to determine why the proposed iPhone 5 was not released in 2011 as expected, technology website 9to5Mac deduced from several sources the iPhone 4S was meant to be a test to see how consumers responded to Siri, before implementing the program onto a completely revamped iPhone 5.

Under the initial plan, the iPhone 4S was supposed to release some time in 2010 and the iPhone 5 in 2011.

However, it is thought that various production delays dealing with an incompatibility between hardware and software is what ultimately stalled the release of the next iPhone.

After plans to release the iPhone 4S as the “flagship phone for 2011” and the iPhone 5 as its low cost alternative also fell through, Apple decided to release the iPhone 4S to beta test Siri as originally planned, 9to5Mac proposed.

As the 4S has retained the chassis of the iPhone 4, insiders suggested the fifth-generation iPhone is essentially an iPhone 5 on the inside and iPhone 4 on the outside.

The next iPhone is expected to release between summer 2012 and summer 2013.
