Man seeking job at Kansas abortion clinic charged after claiming his backpack contained explosives

Police arrested a man seeking a job at a Kansas abortion clinic after he told clinic staff that he had an explosive device and several knives in his bag on Monday afternoon.

According to Wichita police captain Doug Nolte, Moises R. Trevizo, 20, has been charged with unlawful possession of explosives and was actually cooperative with local police and the clinic workers following his arrest. Officials said the explosive device was composed of several fireworks that were put together to become one. "It was dangerous. Don't get me wrong. But it was the size of a salt shaker," Nolte said in an interview with CNN.

According to the suspect, a friend created the device for him, but police don't believe that he was planning to do anything against the clinic and was merely telling the staff that he had explosives in his bag.

The report said Trevizo had just moved out of a house and all his possessions were in his backpack. The arrest took place at South Wind Women's Center, a location in the same facility where Dr. George Tiller and his clinic once provided abortions. Tiller was 67 when he was killed inside a church by an antiabortion gunman way back 2009.

The center is open for business on Mondays with doctors and patients, Julie Burkhart, founder of Trust Women Foundation, said. Her foundation also opened up the said clinic.

Referring to Tiller and other cases of violence against abortionists, Burkhart said, "With what happened with him and other instances of violence across the country, we enacted security protocols."

When asked about her reaction to Trevizo's case, she said, "I'm very concerned that someone would come in the building with weapons. He was carrying knives and explosives. This really illustrates to me that the security protocols that we have in place work."

Reports state that this year, abortion providers are receiving a number of hostile and criminal actions ever since an antiabortion group revealed a series of videos that tackle the stories behind Planned Parenthood and selling fetal organs for profit.
