'Power Rangers' Reboot News, Cast, Spoilers: The Cast Has Been Chosen

The announcement of the movie reboot for the "Power Rangers" has definitely caused a stir for many 90s babies. Although most are already adults now, the excitement of seeing their favorite Mighty Morphin characters definitely triggers a string of nostalgia. Since then, many have tuned in to find out what the plot of the movie could be, and who would be chosen to play the five beloved rangers. Although no story line is confirmed yet, the great news is that the cast has been formally chosen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest person chosen made to complete the Rangers is Becky Gomez, or more known as Becky G. She will be playing the Yellow Ranger. The 18-year-old initially claimed fame on YouTube after posting songs and raps. Her acting debut came about on "Empire" season 2 when she appeared as the sensual Valentina Galindo. Gomez has been trying to break into the industry since 2008, and her role on the FOX series has definitely given her resume a boost and perhaps has helped her bag the role of Yellow Ranger.

The announcements for the cast have been made with individual posts on its social media pages, including official Instagram page (@powerrangersmovie). The account posted a caption saying, "It's morphin time! @iambeckyg is suiting up as the #YellowRanger in the #PowerRangers Movie!", the Mexican-American actress reacted to the news on her Twitter page by posting, "My favorite color is yellow. It's like it was meant to be."

Other stars cast alongside Gomez are RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), and newcomer Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger).

The Lionsgate-produced film is hoped to transition the popular 1990s TV series into mainstream. Despite still having an ongoing show, it is said the a movie might be needed to connect to the kids of the current generation. The film is expected to hit theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.
