Ted Cruz Says Fight Not Over With GOP Convention Nearing

Former Republican presidential nominee Ted Cruz is still mum on whether he will support Donald Trump.

Ted Cruz and his allies are preparing for the coming National GOP Convention. According to a report in NBC News, Cruz who recently attended a GOP convention in his home state of Texas told his supporters and the public that the days ahead will be "challenging" for the Republican Party. He, however, expressed hope that those who remain loyal to him and the party "will be the remnant, will be the core of pulling this country back from the abyss."

Aside from this pronouncement, the former Republican nominee has remained mum about whether he will throw his support for presumptive nominee Donald Trump. According to the NBC report, the support of Cruz and his allies in Texas is needed by Trump if he is squaring off with Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for the presidential elections. A Texan party elder, Steve Munisteri said that "Ted Cruz has led a national movement, a conservative movement. We certainly need solid conservatives to be behind our nominee [Trump.]"

According to another report in Politico, Cruz and his allies in the Republican Party are eyeing to continue their fight to run the party. Despite his failure to win over Trump in the presidential nominee race, he is still hoping that when he attends the National Convention in July, he will be able to bring about key changes in how the party governs itself and picks its presidential nominee. Aside from changes in rules, the party will also be working out its "official policy platform" as well as "determine how much power the Republican National Committee has to make new rules of its own."

The key discussion points, which will also be the likely flash points during the convention, will include closed primaries. This means doing away with open primaries and the "conscience clause," which will release conservative delegates from supporting the presumptive delegate, should that delegate represent views that contradict theirs or the party.

Cruz also used his appearance at the Texas GOP Convention to thank his supporters, according to another report in ABC News. In return, his supporters at the convention also wrote notes to him and his family, through a rented booth that was initially intended for his presidential campaign if he did not back out.
