Windows 10 Mobile Now Rolling Out, But Not On All Windows Phones

Sad news for owners of some Windows phones, namely Lumia 920 and Lumia 1020. Microsoft is not making good on its promise that all Windows phones will be getting the upgrade to the Windows 10 Mobile OS. According to a report in The Verge, the company is currently rolling out the upgrade but only to "select" Windows 8.1 devices.

The official list of Lumia devices are as follows: Lumia 1520, 930, 830, 730, 735, 640, 640XL, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 540, 535, 532, 435, 430. According to a Tech Times report, the following devices are also included: BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q and MCJ Madosma Q501. Along with the Lumia 920 and the Lumia 1020, the BLU Win JR LTE is also not receiving the upgrade. The Verge report indicated that this will be the only roll out for the upgrade, with no plans for a second round of upgrades.

According to The Verge report, this move may likely anger some Windows phone users, especially those who bought their devices early on with a promise that they will be receiving the upgrade.

The Tech Times report speculated that Windows phones with less than 1GB of RAM are the ones being left out. Microsoft further explained, ""As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience."

Those consumers whose phones are included in the upgrade list can avail of the upgrade by installing the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app, which will inform them when the update is available and ready for download and installation.

Windows 10 Mobile is set to bring new features to the mobile device, such as a better notification menu, an audio recording app, a new alarm app, new context menus, sticky keyboards, among other things. With Microsoft moving towards making universal apps available, mobile users can use the same app on their Windows 10 desktop or tablet for easier integration.
