Xbox One News: Console Will Run Windows 10 Universal Apps, Xbox Store Merging With Windows Store

Microsoft is all about bridging platforms these days. After announcing that the Xbox One gamers will soon be able to play with players on other platforms such as the PC, they are now saying that the Xbox One will be able to run what they call Windows 10 Universal apps soon. The company made this announcement at the Game Developers Conference 2016, according to a Tech Times report.

According to the report, Microsoft revealed that this will be possible starting this summer. The GDC was the best place for the company to announce such news, where developers were present to hear about it and what it means for their business. The report cited that because of this development, developers can now make games and applications that will run on all Windows 10 devices, from Windows 10 mobile devices, Windows 10 desktops, and consoles running on the latest OS.

Microsoft has yet to reveal what universal apps have been developed already or what is in development. The report speculated that apps for social media networking, messaging, streaming and content (photo or video) creation will be the first ones to get universal apps.

Developers will have their chance to learn more about the integration between Windows 10 PCs and consoles on March 30, when Microsoft holds its own Build conference. The company is set to introduce the Xbox One app store during said conference.

Because of the console-PC integration, the report also cited that Microsoft will eventually be merging the Windows Store and the Xbox One Store.

All of this is part of Microsoft's efforts to have people spend more time playing games, especially on the console and through Xbox Live. Another related effort is creating what they call "Xbox Live Tournaments Platform" which will allow coders on both Windows 10 and the Xbox One to create their own competitive eSports leagues.
