Trump's week in review: Pentagon worship service, year-end address to the nation
2. Department of War holds Christmas worship service
On Wednesday, the United States Department of War hosted a Christmas worship service at the Pentagon. The event featured performances from award-winning Christian musicians Matthew West and Anne Wilson while Rev. Franklin Graham led the crowd in reciting The Lord’s Prayer and shared scripture passages.
The event concluded with remarks from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who expressed hope that God would “watch over this building, our president, our cabinet” as well as “our elected leaders in the House and the Senate, our local leaders, our state leaders” and “our troops deployed right now all around the world, their families.” He urged God to “guide them and keep them and watch over them.”
Hegseth identified the inaugural Christmas worship service at the Pentagon as “the least we can do in this season” while stressing that his agency holds worship services “monthly” and vowed to “continue to do” the worship services going forward. He acknowledged to the crowd of military members gathered at the event that they are “asked to do impossible things, work impossible hours at impossible odds,” insisting that “mere men and women could not do” such tasks.
“That’s why we bend the knee because we know where our strength comes from and we need that wisdom and that guidance, that providential guide in our own lives as we try to act on behalf of our nation,” he said. “This Christmas season is a reminder of why we serve and who we serve.”
