A Blind Pole Vaulter Demonstrates Great Power to Overcome Adversity

Charlotte Brown came in third with a pole vault of 11 feet, 6 inches at the Texas state high school track meet. She has been chasing her dream to get a medal jumping a bar even though she's blind. Her story and encouragement will lift your spirit up high!

Brown was born with normal vision, but she developed cataracts at just 16 weeks old. She was able to use her vision until she was about 11 years old, then it began to decline. It's a story that is sad to hear, yet she is still moving forward and chasing her dreams. At this point in her life, she is now completely blind, and doing all she can to progress.

When Charlotte got to seventh grade, she began to pole vault. She picked this activity because she was looking for something a little "dangerous and exciting." She wanted everyone to be competitive while going against her, and they did.

"She came to win," said her father, Ian Brown. "As parents, we are thrilled she got on the podium."
