State Department official George Kent testified that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who serves as a lawyer to Trump, was interfering in U.S. foreign policy decisions.

“[By August,] Giuliani’s efforts to gin up politically motivated investigations were now infecting U.S. engagement with Ukraine,” said Kent, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“[The U.S. should not] engage in selective, politically associated investigations or prosecutions against opponents of those in power, because such selective actions undermine the rule of law regardless of the country.”

Kent also accused Giuliani of a “smear campaign” against former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch who testified on Friday.

Giuliani took to his Twitter account to denounce the testimonies of both Kent and ambassador Taylor.

“[Representative Adam] Schiff’s two star witnesses don’t have any facts, only opinion. No first hand knowledge, only second, third,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

“The testimony should be stricken from the record. Neither could identify a crime or wrongdoing, not even an opinion about that. This is falling apart on the 1st day.”
