6 things to know about the ongoing unrest in Minneapolis: 'A wake-up call'
2. Leadership shakeup as border czar Tom Homan dispatched to Minneapolis
In the wake of the Pretti shooting, ICE and Border Patrol in Minneapolis experienced a leadership shakeup Monday as Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino was reportedly reassigned to leave the city amid the continuing unrest.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also suspended Bovino's access to his social media accounts, which he had been using to spar with Democratic lawmakers, post photos of apprehended suspects and link to his interviews on cable news, according to CNN.
Bovino's departure from Minneapolis comes as border czar Tom Homan has been dispatched to Minneapolis, where he will report directly to President Donald Trump.
During the White House press briefing Monday, Leavitt did not say Bovino was leaving Minnesota, but noted Homan would be the "main point of contact on the ground in Minneapolis" going forward, but that Bovino would "continue to lead" border operations nationwide.
In response to rumors that Bovino's position had been eliminated, Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin posted on X that he had "NOT been relieved of his duties" and remains "a key part of the President's team and a great American."
Trump told a press gaggle outside the White House on Tuesday that there were no plans for Noem to step down as DHS secretary.
