6 things to know about the ongoing unrest in Minneapolis: 'A wake-up call'

6. Signs of de-escalation: 'A productive call'

Walz and administration officials have reportedly been engaged in dialogue in recent days, with both sides indicating cooperation to reduce the federal surge as Minneapolis has pursued a temporary restraining order against the federal government.

Walz said Monday that he had "a productive call" with Trump, during which the two discussed the need for "impartial investigations of the Minneapolis shootings involving federal agents, and that we need to reduce the number of federal agents in Minnesota."

Walz and Frey met with Homan on Tuesday morning, during which the governor "reiterated Minnesota's priorities: impartial investigations into the Minneapolis shootings involving federal agents, a swift, significant reduction in the number of federal forces in Minnesota, and an end to the campaign of retribution against Minnesota," according to Walz's office.

Homan tweeted Tuesday evening that during his meeting with Walz, Frey and top law enforcement officials in Minneapolis, all agreed "that we need to support our law enforcement officers and get criminals off the streets."

"While we don't agree on everything, these meetings were a productive starting point and I look forward to more conversations with key stakeholders in the days ahead. President Trump has been clear: he wants American cities to be safe and secure for law-abiding residents — and they will be," Homan said.
