'Batman Arkham City' Sequel to Launch in 2014, Game Titled 'Arkham Knight,' Artwork Leaked

The long awaited sequel to 2011's "Batman: Arkham City" will launch in 2014 for Xbox One and PS4 and will be titled "Batman: Arkham Knight."

A website known as VideoGamer.com discovered artwork for the upcoming title that will be developed by the series original creators Rocksteady. The listing reveals that Arkham Knight is the "explosive finale" to the Batman series that began in 2009 with "Batman: Arkham Asylum."

The new game will feature a slew of villains from Batman's rogue gallery including Scarecrow, Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn. It will also feature a uniquely designed version of the Batmobile which will be drivable for the first time in the series and will be used for exploration around the city.

Rocksteady has been long-rumored to have been working on the next-gen Batman game for the Xbox One and PS4. WB Montreal took over for 2013's "Batman: Arkham Origins" so that Rocksteady could focus all of its efforts into the game for the new systems. "Arkham Knight' will also be available on the PC, according to the listing.

"Batman: Arkham Origins" was released in the fall of last year and functions as a prequel to 2009's "Arkham Asylum" and 2011's "Arkham City." It takes place chronologically before them and telling the story of one of the hero's first years as a crime fighter in Gotham City. "Arkham Knight" will take place after "Arkham City."

The gameplay has remained the same throughout the three games along with the list of villains that includes Bane, the Joker, Harley Quinn and Deadshot. A new downloadable mission will be released for "Batman: Arkam Origins" titled Cold, Cold Heart in April that will introduce Mr. Freeze into the early Batman universe.
