5 things to know about pipe bombing suspect Brian Cole Jr.
3. Cole spent years preparing the bomb and continued to make additional bombs
The complaint against Cole illustrates how the alleged suspect began purchasing materials used to make the pipe bombs more than a year before they were discovered in the vicinity of the headquarters of the two major political parties in the U.S.
“Cole purchased a total of 12 black end caps and two galvanized end caps from four different Home Depots in northern Virginia on or about the following dates: October 22, 2019, and March 10, June 20, July 8, and November 16, 2020,” the document stated.
Cole also purchased electrical wire in May and October 2019, as well as September, October and November 2020, battery connectors in November and December 2019, white kitchen timers in June 2020 and steel wool in December 2020. Additional purchases made by Cole include safety glasses in July 2020, a wire stripping tool and wire nuts in November 2020, sandpaper in November 2020 and protective gloves and disinfecting wipes in November 2020.
According to the complaint, Cole made purchases after Jan. 5, 2021, suggesting that he intended to make additional bombs. Cole purchased a white kitchen timer and two nine-volt batteries from Walmart on Jan. 21, 2021, and bought galvanized pipes and steel wool from Home Depot the following day. He also purchased battery clips and alligator clips.
“When the FBI went in this morning (Thursday), they found a lot of other products and pieces for pipe bombs,” including “other pipes” and “other wires.” She told Ingraham on Thursday. “He was into this, very much into this.”
