The Rev. William J. Barber II, the co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign, president of Repairers of the Breach and an NAACP board member, took to Twitter to denounce the killing as "brutal & inhuman."

"It doesn't matter what color the perpetrators are. It was cold blooded death," he tweeted. "Any serious reform must end qualified immunity for law enforcement & allow victims of abuse to access damages from their pension funds. Until this kind of lawlessness costs all of them, officers won't police themselves."

Barber tweeted that he believes when police "abuse power, they must face greater consequences than average citizens — not less."

"We teach our children not to resist officers of the law. If officers betray that public trust & murder under the cover of police work, they should face life w/out parole," he continued.
