'Daredevil' Season 2 News, Update: Show Boss Drew Goddard Reveals He's Still On Board As A Consultant
During his latest conversation with the media at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend for the promotion of his latest film, "The Martian," director/writer Drew Goddard was asked to clarify his standing on Netflix's hit superhero series "Daredevil" of which he previously served as an executive producer.
Long before the development of Season 2 began, Goddard and co-showrunner Steven DeKnight announced that they would not be returning to oversee the sequel installment.
The chairs were apparently delegated to Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, colleagues of the aforementioned EPs in Season 1.
Needless to say, this left fans, who were anticipating for the comeback of the Charlie Cox-led series, to feel quite uneasy. But to make it clear for everyone, Goddard revealed that he's still on board both as an executive producer and as a consultant.
"My job is wonderful which is—I mean my friends are running it, Marco [Ramirez] and Doug [Petrie], and when I say, 'What do you guys need?' they say, 'Come in, talk.' That's how it works, I'm still the executive producer. I show up and we talk about Matt Murdock and I say, 'Do you need any more help?' and they say, 'No,' and then I leave (laughs)," the 40-year-old said (via Collider).
On top of this, Goddard shares with Collider that he feels he has a "personal connection" with Matt Murdock/Daredevil. He felt that it's his responsibility to not just "take the comics and then shoots them onscreen" but instead take it as if "it's our run."
On top of the Man Without Fear, Marvel and Netflix are also about to bring more small screen surprises, this year and the following. Titles like "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage," "Iron Fist" and "The Defenders" are already covering the streaming network's project timeline. When asked if he's open to take part in most or any of those, Goddard said that he's "always there when they [Marvel and Netflix] wanna talk about it" and "always ready to do it."
"Daredevil" Season 2 hits Netflix next year.
