Irena Sendler

Polish social worker Irena Sendler used her position to enter the Warsaw Ghetto, one of the largest ghettos where Jews were confined during World War II, to smuggle children out. She then hid the children in orphanages, convents, private homes, and other locations to ensure their survival. Sendler is featured in the “Lights in the Darkness” gallery, which tells the stories of various individuals who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.

“All were Heroes, but only some survived the clutches of the Nazi murder regime,” the Friends of Zion states about the exhibit. “These Righteous Among the Nations were people whose Christian morals would not allow them to just ‘stand by’ and see God’s children sacrificed on the altar of man’s inhumanity.”
