'Gotham' Season 2 News, Update: Cory Michael Smith Talks About the Riddler, Will He Team Up With the Penguin?
A lot of news regarding the upcoming season of the hit Batman-origin TV drama series "Gotham" points out new characters coming and cast members getting promoted to series regulars.
Recent news tackled the character development of one of the DC TV show's big villains. Lead actor Ben McKenzie is very excited for the moment where his Detective Jim Gordon goes "toe to toe" with the Riddler.
"When Nygma takes on his whole persona, I'm sure there will be confrontations aplenty between him and Jim Gordon…" McKenzie told the press. "I look forward to that."
The character in question, played by Cory Michael Smith, was seen towards the end of the show's freshman season. His dark and villainous demeanor conflicts with the person fans know from the comics and movies because he is not yet a full-blown supervillain.
"He finds so much joy in his darkness, which we're not there yet. The whole 'riddle me this' and choosing to be called the Riddler, that's something he decides eventually. But him falling into this dark pool is really exciting for me. The confusion, trying to find his identity … all those exciting questions," Smith said.
Robin Lord Taylor also expressed excitement for Nygma's decline to darkness and looks forward to the Riddler working with his Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin.
"I mean, we had that one scene together, and it was one of my top three scenes we shot the entire season. I want Edward to really make his change and then … I would be down with [a Penguin-Riddler partnership]. I'm sure a lot of people would too," Taylor said.
"Gotham" Season 2 returns to Fox in Fall 2015.
