'Halloween' Sequel Reboot News: Danny McBride Recounts How They Got Jamie Lee Curtis to Return

Writer Danny McBride reveals how he and director David Gordon Green got Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her role as Laurie Strode. Meanwhile, franchise creator John Carpenter teases extreme horror for the upcoming sequel.

McBride shared with Yahoo! that Blumhouse Productions approached him and Gordon to create a "Halloween" sequel, but the two of them agreed that they'll only do it if Carpenter gives the green light.

"The first thing David and I said was, 'We'll come up with a take, but we have to pitch it to [franchise creator John] Carpenter. If he's not interested, we're definitely not into making this,'" McBride explained, which executive producer Jason Blum completely agreed to.

When McBride and David pitched to Carpenter, they weren't expecting that the franchise creator would like it, but he did. However, they forgot to check in with Curtis if she'd be on board with the sequel, too.

"So Dave and I just busted our ass on this script to really make that Laurie Strode character something she wouldn't be able to say no to," McBride said. All their hard work paid off because Curtis agreed to reprise her role after reading their script.

"We were over the moon about her involvement," the writer revealed.

Meanwhile, Carpenter — an executive producer on the upcoming "Halloween" sequel — teased that he'll do best to make the 10th installment become the most horrifying of all.

"I think you should be very scared. ... Hopefully it gets in people's heads and keeps them up late at night," Carpenter said.

Plot details for the "Halloween" sequel are kept under wraps, but McBride revealed that they will be "ignoring" the events that happened in the previous films.

Curtis teased her return to the franchise this month on Twitter, sharing a photo of a wounded Laurie with the maniac killer by her side.

The "Halloween" sequel is slated to premiere on Oct. 19, 2018.
