Kathie Lee Gifford: Frank Gifford 'Can't Remember' Reported Affair

Kathie Lee Gifford addressed the latest headlines that suggested her husband Frank Gifford had an affair with Johnny Carson's wife several years ago.

The "Today Show" host married Gifford, an NFL legend, in 1986- almost 15 years after the alleged affair would have taken place.

Nevertheless, Gifford cleared her husband's name against the new book by Carson's former attorney Henry Bushkin that includes the cheating claims.

The attorney's report indicated that Carson's second wife Joanne had had an affair with Gifford during the 1970s.

On Tuesday, Katie Lee Gifford started to explain the situation on the "Today" show when she said she had just talked to her husband about the headlines over the phone.

"He said, 'Do you believe this,'" the morning show host recounted. "I said, 'tell me … it was a long time ago, did you have an affair with her?'"

Then, the 60-year-old host joked that her husband may have forgotten such a romance.

"He said, 'I can't remember. Maybe,'" said Gifford, before shutting down the rumor.

"No, but it's not true, that particular [rumor]," she added. "Although the man is capable of this, you know."

Furthermore, Gifford said her husband was only a friend to Joanne.

"It's never dull in our house," she quipped.

The explosive allegation is found in Bushkin's forthcoming tell-all memoir, in stores Oct. 15.

Meanwhile, over the course of their nearly 27-year-long marriage, Gifford has discussed her relationship with Frank, including some fights.

"It can be brutal, but we also laugh tons more than we fight," she said during a special segment on the show in July. "If you don't laugh, you might as well pack it in right now."

During the same segment, Frank Gifford offered a tip on why his marriage works in a short clip.

"I think it's quite simple how to make a marriage work," said the 83-year-old former sportscaster. "In my case I just never say, 'No,' and you always tell her how skinny she looks. She likes that and I like her to like that."
