Renew Your Mind and Change Your Life

What are you thinking about? Do you ever think about what you're thinking about? Do you know that you can choose your thoughts? That might seem like a strange thing to say, but the truth is, many people don't realize they can choose what they think about. And it's important for us to choose our thoughts carefully because our thoughts have a lot to do with our perspectives and attitudes.

I remember when I finally realized this for myself. At the time, I was a very frustrated, miserable Christian who had no peace. Even though I went to church every week and read my Bible regularly, I wasn't experiencing the abundant life in Christ that John 10:10 says we can have.

Proverbs 23:7 says, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he" (NKJV). In other words, we become what we think. Or, as I like to say, where the mind goes, the man follows. It was a breakthrough to understand that my problems had a lot to do with a negative, critical, suspicious, judgmental mindset, and I didn't have to just think any thought that fell into my mind. I could think about what I wanted to think about on purpose.

The best thing we can do is renew our minds with the Word of God so we can think like He thinks and experience His good plan for our lives. Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (NKJV).

When you spend time studying the Word and renewing your mind with the Truth, it helps you set your mind in the right direction so you can have more victory in Christ in your life. And as this new way of thinking gradually renews your mind, it dilutes the old thinking and transforms your perspectives and attitudes.

Power Thoughts

I've discovered 12 power thoughts, based on Scripture, which will positively affect your life. The first one is I can do whatever I need to do in life through Christ.

This power thought is so critical because it helps us put our focus on God, not ourselves. We need to understand that we desperately need God every minute of every day. And when we try to handle everything on our own, that's when we end up stressed-out, overwhelmed and thinking things like "I can't do that," "If that happens again, it's going to put me over the edge," or "I don't know if I can take this anymore!"

Philippians 4:13 (AMP) says, "I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]." I love how the Amplified version says "I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him." This means that no matter what happens today, I'm ready for it and nothing is too much for me because I am more than a conqueror through Christ!

Being more than a conqueror in Christ means that before you ever get a problem, you already know you will overcome it because you can do whatever you need to do in life through Christ. The challenge is not too much for you! God's grace is sufficient for you and His strength is made perfect in your weakness. (See 2 Corinthians 12:9.)

If God is permitting something to be in your life that's difficult, you can trust that He will give you what you need to do what you need to do. That's because He never asks us to do anything without giving us the ability to do it.

God has a great plan for your life, but if you don't see yourself the way He sees you, then you won't be able to do what He calls you to do. Learn to agree with God and believe His Word more than you believe what you think and feel. He wants to do great things through you, and it doesn't matter what your background is, what mistakes you've made, your level of education or what natural skills you have. All things are possible with God, and He can do anything He chooses to do in your life.

I want to encourage you to spend some time meditating on this power thought and studying scriptures in the Word about the greatness of God and who you are in Christ. Start each day declaring, "Lord, I can handle whatever life brings today because I have strength for all things in Christ who empowers me. I can do whatever I need to do in life through Christ!"
