Ronda Rousey News: 'Rowdy' Congratulates Holly Holm In Saturday Night Live Appearance
Former UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey made her first television appearance as the host of Saturday Night Live last weekend.
It was Rousey's first major appearance after she tasted her first professional mixed martial arts defeat in the hands of current champion Holly Holm last November 15 at the main event of UFC 193. The fight was held in front of 56,000 fans at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
"Rowdy's" defeat came as a shock to mixed martial arts fans around the world, as she has established a reputation of being one of the most dominant fighters in the game. Since turning professional in 2011, the former Olympic judoka managed to rack up victory after victory, all via her signature arm lock. Her efforts were rewarded in 2012, when she won the Strikeforce bantamweight title against Miesha Tate.
Upon her transition to the UFC, Rousey won six consecutive fights prior to losing to Holm, with most of them ending in less than one minute. Since November, Rousey has been on the sidelines, both serving her six-month medical suspension and fulfilling some celebrity obligations.
She is currently in the process of filming the remake of the 1980's classic "Road House," where she holds the starring role. On Saturday night, the 28-year-old fighter took some time off her busy schedule to become the host of the iconic NBC show.
During the show's traditional opener where the host delivers a short monologue, she took the opportunity to give props to the woman who dealt her the most disappointing and heartbreaking moment of her fighting career, so far.
"This is the first time I'm talking to my fans since my loss to Holly Holm in November, which by the way, was a fight Holly deserved to win," Rousey said. "And I just want to take a minute to sincerely congratulate her."
As of this posting, Rousey's return date has not yet been made definite, while Holm will be defending her title against two-time title contender Miesha Tate on March 5 at UFC 196.
