Saul Alinsky Would Be Proud

The Tenth Amendment says, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." But Barrack Obama says, I've got a pen and I've got a phone, and I can do what I want. Not the states, not the people, but Me, Myself, and I.

Every week there seems to be a new scandal du jour for this administration.

Although the president famously said there's not a "smidgen of a scandal" involving the IRS (which allegedly targeted conservative and Christian groups), we know now that the critical emails of Lois Lerner are not only apparently lost, but the hard drives were destroyed. Every day of this administration, Richard Nixon looks more and more like a Sunday school teacher.

Congress voted against the Dream Act, but the president is by-passing Congress. This has sent signals to thousands south of the border, who are uprooting themselves and their families to try to get a chance at the American dream. No matter the human cost for these families uprooted (as hundreds have died attempting perilous crossings)---this just means more votes for the Progressive movement.

Then there are advances of the Islamic radicals under this president. The Arab Spring spells out death for Christians and moderate Muslims alike in nations like Egypt, Libya, and Syria. Christians are also on the run in Iraq, where the gains of the past 11 years seem to be lost. And there could be another eventual 9/11 attack on US soil in the making.

Obamacare passed only because of the president's promise to pro-life Democrats to not fund abortions, but now through the HHS mandate, abortion services must be covered or the government could fine you out of business (e.g., Hobby Lobby). Conscience be darned.

Then there's the V.A. scandal, where former soldiers have died, waiting for care, after allegedly being put on phony waiting lists, while those responsible have received huge bonuses. The captives in Gitmo (the ones left) get better medical care than the approximately 20 million veterans through the V.A. system. Just another scandal in the Obama administration.

Not to sound conspiratorial, but one has to wonder if some of these scandals aren't by design.

I think it's helpful to look at one of Barack Obama's indirect mentors. I say indirect because Saul Alinsky (1909-1972) died long before the future president arrived in Chicago, Alinsky's home.

Saul Alinsky was a community organizer and the father of the modern community organizer movement. In fact, he wrote the book for community organizers---Rules For Radicals (1971).

In his 2012 book for Truth in Action Ministries, Radical Rulers: The White House Elites Who Are Pushing America Toward Socialism, journalist Robert Knight writes, "A 'community organizer' since at least the 1920s, Alinsky had schooled countless young idealistic reformers in the arts of obtaining political power in order to promote various left-wing causes." (p. 44).

Here is what Alinsky wrote in the dedication page of his book: "Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgement to the very first radical; from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins---or which is which). The first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom---Lucifer."

After pointing out that "Alinsky saluted Satan as his inspiration," Knight notes: "And a devilish business it is since Alinsky's primer is all about using deception, manipulation and raw power to bring about a communistic future." (p. 44).

A committed Marxist, Alinsky grew up in a rough part of Chicago and worked hard to implement social justice---as he understood it. He believed that the ends justified the means. He said the community organizer is "a political relativist." (Rules for Radicals, p. 11)

Author Bill Federer said, "This idea that Saul Alinsky adopted is: You're convinced your agenda is so good, any means necessary to get there is okay---lying, voter fraud, intimidation, bribery, threats, anything."

Obama studied Alinsky and is reported to have taught Alinsky's views. David Alinsky, Saul's son, has spoken of "Barack Obama's training in Chicago by the great community organizers."

Saul Alinsky's influence helped create ACORN---dedicated to mobilizing more minority votes. Successful lawsuits against ACORN have found it to guilty of subverting the electoral process.

While many people want to resolve conflict and controversy, Saul Alinksy relished it as a way to achieve power. Alinksy stated in a film, "First rule of change is controversy. Change means movement, and movement means friction and friction means heat and heat means controversy."

Saul Alinsky also believed that you could achieve your radical goals by demonizing the opposition. He states: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. The real action is in the enemy's reaction. The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength. Tactics, like life, require that you move with the action."

While seemingly caring about the poor, note critics of Saul Alinsky and his followers, what they really want is political power and will use any means necessary to seize it.

Tragically, reading Rules for Radicals is like reading the playbook for the Obama administration, as the president is engaged in "fundamentally transforming" the United States.
