'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' News: Director Confirms Post-Production Is Complete; Actor Suggests Possibility of Seeing Palpatine Again
"Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson has recently confirmed that his team has wrapped the post-production process of the film. Meanwhile, actor Ian McDiarmid is positive that there is a "chance" for fans to see Emperor Palpatine again.
Last week, Johnson shared a photo of the movie's post-production team with a big sign at the back that said "Finish" in bold letters. The director has also captioned the photo: "Aaaand that's a wrap on the hardest working post production team in the galaxy. Going to miss sitting in dark rooms with these goobers."
While this stage of a movie's development does not normally stir excitement among fans, this case was different. For one, many fans took the news as a sign for a possible new trailer to be released before the movie premieres in December.
The first official trailer for "The Last Jedi" aired in April, and it did not reveal much, just as expected. The video teaser was filled mostly with fight scene sequences and landscape montage. The most interesting part of the promo was, undoubtedly, the very last scene where Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) said: "It's time for the Jedi to end."
Movies normally have multiple trailers before the actual premiere. However, some fans have grown anxious since it has been months without a follow-up teaser for "The Last Jedi."
However, Hamill stirred up speculations on when fans can expect the second trailer after he tweeted a cryptic message that said: "Watch Monday Night Football on Monday October 9th- for no reason in particular."
Hamill's social media post sparked even more rumors since the actor took down the tweet a few moments after. Many fans agreed that the actor was likely hinting at the reveal of the next trailer for "The Last Jedi."
Meanwhile, about a week before Johnson confirmed the conclusion of the movie's post-production process, the official Twitter account of "Star Wars" also teased: "Almost there."
In other related news, McDiarmid has recently told BBC that he is positive Emperor Palpatine will show up in another "Star Wars" release. When asked about the possibilities, the actor said: "I suppose there must be a chance but I think you'd find out about it more quickly than I would."
However, he also clarified: "As far as the new films are concerned, I'm dead. There is no question about that."
He added: "But there is what they call the anthology series and actually the most recent one, Rogue One, was about the time when I was in charge. ... Maybe they are keeping me as a surprise for later but I have no idea. Of course, I don't want anyone else to play him."
"The Last Jedi" is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on Friday, Dec. 15.
