Starbucks Presents New Flavor to Attract More Customers
Starbucks' 'Blonde' Roast Will Attract Those With a Milder Palate
Starbucks is expected to release its newest roast, entitled “blonde,” to offer customers with a milder, lighter taste option.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a blonde coffee “is made with different beans and roasted for shorter periods of time.”
According to a taste test conducted by Consumer America in 2007, tasters found Starbucks coffee to be “strong, but burnt and bitter enough to make your eyes water instead of open.”
Starbucks will counter this long running criticism with the blonde roast, which is the mildest of the three, in comparison to medium and dark roast.
“More than 40 percent of U.S. coffee drinkers – or approximately 54 million consumers – prefer a lighter roast coffee,” read the Starbucks website.
“More than 70 percent of total premium coffee sales in grocery are in the light and medium roast categories,” the company added.
The coffee options included in the new blonde roast are the Veranda Blend, Willow Blend, and VIA Ready Brew Veranda Blend.
The blonde roast’s beans were grown in Latin America, which supplied the Veranda blend, and Latin America/East Africa, which supplied the Willow blend.
Starbucks recently made news when it chose to support the “Create Jobs for U.S.A.” fund, donating $35 to the Opportunity Finance Network for every $5 donated by Starbucks patrons.
These donations, along with a $5 million donation from the company, will go towards increasing job opportunities in low income communities.
The new addition to the Starbucks menu joins the classical holiday favorites, which include the pumpkin spice latte and the peppermint latte.
