The Winans Family Sparks Revival at Whitney Houston's Funeral

Our nation attended church on Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, when Whitney Houston's nearly four-hour funeral service was broadcast on national television. Many of those who witnessed it were incredibly touched by the testimonies, the singing and the preaching. The highlight for me and for others was when members of the Winans family sang "Tomorrow." In case you missed it, go to YouTube and listen to "Winans Family Whitney Houston Funeral Tribute – Tomorrow." You'll be glad you did!

Jesus said, "Here I stand; Won't you please take my hand," and you said, "I will, tomorrow." With those words, BeBe Winans introduced a song that spoke to millions of people who had tuned in to remember a music legend. In the course of events that day, some attenders and some viewers experienced personal revival. God has an amazing way of taking a sad event and shining through with the light of His love, His grace and His goodness.

Whitney certainly had her highs and her lows in life, but she never forgot the One who gave His life for her on the cross. He never forgot her either. Whitney sang "Jesus Loves Me" in Hollywood on the night before her death. The Winans have been a part of Whitney Houston's life for many years. It was inspiring to hear Marvin Winans preach the Word at her funeral as he and the rest of his family sang God's praises throughout the service. The anointing of the Holy Spirit upon them was very strong.

The power of the Gospel message is greater than any struggle with addictions that a person may endure. That power was unleashed through the singing and the preaching by this anointed family. It is the power of the Holy Spirit flowing through those who are serving our Lord in humility and in truth. God was not always glorified through every decision Whitney ever made, just like He has not been glorified through every decision you and I have made over the years. All of those memories were washed away in the flood of God's love which was broadcast for millions to experience on Saturday.

The power of the song "Tomorrow" lies in both the melody and the lyrics. The anointed voices which sang it presented a "portal" of sorts through which a hearer could enter into God's presence and receive Jesus by faith. If you know someone who is blessed by Gospel music, please encourage them to watch that video clip this week. Invite them to open their heart to Jesus.

If you live in or near Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Washington DC, Philadelphia, or New York, you can get in on this revival as BeBe & CeCe Winans are coming to your city in early April along with Mary Mary. It is their "Still Something Big" tour. You won't want to miss it! Go and get filled up with the Holy Spirit. God will wash you clean through the blood of Jesus just as He did for those on Saturday who decided to "choose the Lord today" as it says in the song.

Just as God gave Whitney Houston an incredible voice, He has also gifted other singers who are using their talents in amazing ways. Martin Luther said that next to theology, music is God's greatest gift to man. I hope you will listen to the Winans sing and receive your blessing today. God has taken the tragic death of a gifted singer and He is using it as an opportunity to bring people to the only One who can rescue us from sin and death and addictions. I hope that includes you my friend! "For your tomorrow has very well become today."
