'Turbo' Stretches The Imagination, Encourages Big Dreams
DreamWorks Animation's film "Turbo" hits theaters this week and offers the unexpected adventure of an ordinary garden snail with extraordinary dreams.
Ryan Reynolds offered his voice as the film's protagonist while Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena and Snoop Dogg also provided voices for "Turbo" characters.
The adorably far-fetched story follows Theo, a spirited snail who longs to be a racecar driver when he is involved in a freak accident that gives him motor-like speed.
With his newfound power and the company of his skeptical brother Chet, Theo meets Tito, a fellow dreamer and optimist. The snail and the co-taco shop owner strike up an immediate rapport, and Tito agrees to help Theo into the Indy 500 under the name "Turbo."
Although entering the race promises to expand the taco business Tito shares with his older brother Angelo, raising the money and convincing the public that a snail has the speed tests the determination and faith of Turbo, Tito and everyone around them.
Complete with several laugh-out-loud moments, "Turbo" offers entertainment for the entire family and emphasizes the importance of self-confidence and hard work.
Furthermore, the family film inspires viewers that "no dream is to big, no dreamer is too small," even if the plot is inconceivable.
Characters in "Turbo" offer a refreshing variety of cultures and backgrounds as the story is set in the Los Angeles district of Van Nuys, California.
Tito and his brother Angelo operate their taco business within a shopping center that also includes Asian, white and Latino-owned businesses that all come together to support Turbo's Indy 500 dream.
Meanwhile, the David Soren-directed film also features voiceovers by "Fast & Furious" star Michelle Rodriguez and "Hangover" actor Ken Jeong.
"Turbo" is available in 3-D in theaters everywhere today. Watch the trailer here.
