SonyXperiaGB, the company's official Twitter account in the U.K. revealed in the thread that the devices that will be updated to Android 4.4 are "still under development."

Sony's latest flagship, the Xperia Z1 comes running Android 4.2.2, JellyBean. None of Sony's devices haves updated to Android 4.3, JellyBean thus far. The company could end up skipping the software with most of them.

Android 4.4 KitKat was introduced by Google last week alongside the brand new Nexus 5 smartphone.

The software is designed to be installed on a wide range of devices including older models that only have 512MB RAM.

"KitKat streamlines every major component to reduce memory use and introduces new APIs and tools to help you create innovative, responsive, memory-efficient applications," said Google on its developer's website.

The software is designed to protect system memory from apps consuming large amounts of RAM. Android will launch the services serially, or in small groups in order to avoid peak memory demands.

KitKat also adds new capabilities to NFC along with the ability to print any type of content over Wi-Fi or cloud hosted services such as Google Cloud Print.

The official Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (both models), Nexus 10, and Google Play editions of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One will be available in the coming weeks.
