Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update News: New Emoji, Easier Camera Access And A Tweaked 'Do Not Disturb'

Android's latest mobile OS Marshmallow recently received its first update since the OS was first released. According to a report in BGR, the update is relatively tame but it does bring with it some exciting new features that Android users will want to have on their phones.

Among the new features brought by the update is the addition of a whole load of emojis. Emojis, as most Android users are aware of, offer digital icons that signify emotions and ideas. Essentially, they offer Android users other ways of expressing themselves aside from the usual text-based messages. According to a report in Ars Technica, the emojis included in the update are Unicode 8 emojis numbering to over 160 emojis.

While some of the emojis are new, most are tweaked versions of older emoji that appeared in Android 6.0. The Ars Technica report contains a complete list of all the emojis included in the update and their corresponding codes. According to the BGR report, this makes Android users up to date when it comes to emoji support, which Apple's iOS used to boast of.

With the Android 6.0.1, easier and faster access to the phone's camera is provided. Double tapping the power button will immediately launch the camera, which can be useful in some circumstances. The feature was first demonstrated with Nexus 5x and Nexus 6P devices and with this update, it will be made available to older devices as well. The BGR report however noted that it is not yet clear if non-Nexus devices which get the update will have the same feature.

The update also further improves on the Do Not Disturb mode that Android 6.0 brought on. The update has further tweaked the mode by allowing the user to mute all notifications up until the next scheduled alarm that is set by the user goes off. This gives the user the time not to bother with any notifications until he or she is ready to take them on.
