'Castle Rock' Spoilers: Trailer Teases Interconnected Universe
A sneak peek into Hulu's upcoming anthology series "Castle Rock" based on Stephen King's novels alludes to the author's interconnected horror universe.
Much of "Castle Rock" is shrouded in secrecy even the first official trailer for the series says so little about the supernatural troubles in the New England town. Perhaps it is because J.J. Abrams, who is well-known for building up such mysteries, is part of the show as an executive producer.
Although the trailer speaks little about the pilot season, here are a few details we can infer from the clip.
Familiar faces from adaptations of King's novels through the years will appear on "Castle Rock," one is Sissy Spacek who played the lead role in "Carrie." In the show, she is cast as Ruth Deaver, adoptive mother of "Moonlight" star Andre Holland, who will play Henry.
Another familiar face is Melanie Lynskey who has been cast as Molly Strand, a real estate agent with a rare medical condition. She appeared in the TV adaptation "Rose Red" a few decades back.
Bill Skarsgard, star of the horror film "It," is among the cast members of the show. Although he is not reprising his role as Pennywise the Clown, he appears to be playing another character who is not short of creepiness.
Apart from Skarsgard's presence in the series, a few scenes from the trailer seems to evoke "It." This includes a view of a well from down below, dilapidated houses, and a boogeyman.
For starters, Castle Rock is a fictional town in Maine. It has been part of several Stephen King stories, including "The Body," "Cujo," and "The Dead Zone." Through the anthology series, Hulu intends to bring those mysteries together in Castle Rock which shared an important element in those novels. Apart from King's well-known thrillers, viewers should expect to uncover brand new hair-raising stories.
"Castle Rock" is slated to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2018.
