The aftermath on Monday saw hundreds on eunuchs gather together to mourn those lost in the fire and to collect their belongings from the aftermath of the tragedy.

“Eunuchs” in India is a term used to describe transvestites, transsexuals and others who identify themselves as neither male nor female. They controversially call themselves “a third gender.” The group is criticized by the church, other mainstream religions, as well as society in general in the country. Many are known to even have had their male genitalia removed.

It is estimated that there are approximately 700,000 eunuchs in India; most of whom are condemned by family and mainstream society.
