A Goodwill worker is being praised for handing in ,000 found in a donation pile, rather than keeping it for herself.

The Goodwill employee, Lakeisha Williams was sorting through donations at the Stockton, Calif., collection spot when she found an envelope full of $100 bills.

When she counted up the large pile of cash it totaled $10,500. Williams has been praised by her bosses, as well as hundreds online, for not pocketing the money for herself – something that any people in her position would have been tempted to do.

Instead of giving in to temptation, Williams immediately took the large sum to her manager, realizing that someone had dropped the money in the donations by mistake.

"My concern was, someone is out that money and I'd like for them to get it back," Williams told KXTV.

Goodwill has a policy in place for such incidents, and they will hold on to the money for the donor to come and reclaim their money should they have misplaced it.

David Miller, president of Goodwill Industries of San Joaquin Valley told ABC, "What we did is we take the money … and put it into a holding account. We wait usually a pretty good amount of time to see if somebody comes forward and identifies themselves and says they made a donation and a mistake."

It has since been reported that the money will be held for 120 days, in which time if the owner of the money comes forward to reclaim their funds, it will be returned to them. However, if no-one comes forward within those 120 days then Goodwill will treat it as a donation.

Goodwill has also confirmed that if the money is taken as a donation, then Williams will receive 10 percent of it, about $1,050, for her honesty in turning it in.

"We have a policy to reward our employees for their honesty and integrity," Miller told ABC.
