Google Pixel 2 November Security Update: New Saturated Color Mode Now Available

Google has launched the November security patch for both Nexus and Pixel devices. For the latter, the update addresses various screen problems. It also brings more color modes and burn-in protections.

Users have been clamoring for an improved display since Google revealed that they have opted to use a "more natural and accurate rendition of colors" for Pixel 2. When many complained that the display looks dull, Google promised to add more color modes to satiate customers' needs. And with the update, users should be able to set the saturation according to their preference.

Listed under the Display settings, a color menu will list three different choices to choose from: a boosted, natural, or saturated display.

As for the dim navigation buttons which were introduced during the Android 8.1 Developer Preview, it is now available on the stable versions. In a few seconds of inactivity, the buttons automatically turn dim to counter the screen retention that some Pixel 2 owners have observed at the bottom part of the display.

Google has also promised to make additional apps like Settings adopt a light navigation bar. Meanwhile, the maximum brightness for the Pixel 2 XL has been reduced by 50 nits to make up for some users' burn-in problems.

"These features have been carefully designed so as not to detract from the user experience. Since all OLED displays experience some degree of decay over time, we'll continue to make enhancements which maximize the life of your Pixel screen," Google said.

Furthermore, the tech giant has addressed the clicking noises on the smartphone unit that some have complained about.

The factory or OTA image for the Pixel 2 XL has not been launched,  but many have claimed to have received the 59.3 MB patch. The latest Android 8.0 updates are currently available on the smaller Pixel 2 variant.
