Smartwatch Showdown: Pebble Time Steel vs Apple Watch vs Moto 360 (2015) Specs and Features Review

The range of consumer options for smartwatches has expanded this year and tech sites such as Wareable have posted comparison reviews about some of the big names in wearable technology this year. Among the smartwatches that were featured in these reviews include the Pebble Time Steel, the Apple Watch and the 2015 Moto 360. How do these devices fare when compared head to head?

Design is a big factor for most consumers when choosing a smartwatch. Among the three watches, the 2015 Moto 360 stands out because of its round face, making it look like a classic analogue watch. Both the Apple Watch and the Pebble Time Steel sport square faces which, for some consumers, may be a turn-off. Despite this, however, both watches are compact with the Pebble Time slightly thicker and wider.

In terms of customization, the Moto 360 and the Apple Watch offer a wide range of options for the fashion-conscious consumer. The Moto 360 can be customized via the Moto Maker online watch designer which allows the user to choose from three different case size, three case colors, six bezel choices and five strap choices. Apple Watch, on the other hand, is said to come in 50 different variations, from casual to sporty to elegant – choice is dictated by how much money one can spare for their device. Pebble Time Steel, on the other hand, offers three colors to choose from: black, silver and gold. The watch's strap can also be changed quickly because of the quick release mechanism.

Power performance is another area of comparison. Comparing the battery specs of each of these devices, the one with the most juice is the Moto 360 with 400 mAh on the bigger size model and 300 mAh on the smaller model. Apple Watch has a 205 mAh battery on the 38mm models and a 246 mAh on the 42mm models. It was not clear what the capacity of the Pebble Time Steel battery was. In terms of performance however, the best watch is the Pebble Time Steel which can last up to 10 days on a single charge. The Moto 360 beats the Apple Watch, lasting up to two days compared to Apple Watch's one day.

In terms of apps and features, the Moto 360 and the Apple Watch offer the best of their own worlds or OS. Apple Watch has tons of apps developed for WatchOS. The same goes for Android Wear. The watch with the least number of apps available is the Pebble Time Steel, but then again, there may be no need for them as this smartwatch offers a simpler approach in smartwatches.
