Steve Carell, 'Office' Series Finale Reunion Actually Happening?

Steve Carell may return to "The Office" for the series finale after all, according to reports this week.

The actor portrayed Michael Scott on the beloved comedy series, but left the show after seven seasons in 2011.

Over the past few weeks, "The Office" fans have speculated whether Carell would return for the series finale, which airs May 16.

Despite executive producer Greg Daniels' denial of Carell's involvement with the finale, new information indicates that Michael Scott would be playing a part- albeit small.

"I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the 'Goodbye Michael' episode was his goodbye," said Daniels during a recent teleconference with reporters.

"And he didn't want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved," the producer added.

Nevertheless, reports are translating Daniels' words as meaning that Carell will in fact reunite with the cast, but that he would only play a small cameo role.

Adding to speculation over the series' finale, Carell surprised fans over the weekend when he attended a wrap party held in the real Scranton, Penn., with his former co-stars, according to TVLine.

Meanwhile, a representative for Carell has denied that the actor will appear on "The Office" finale, and an NBC spokesperson refused to comment altogether.

Some fans have immediately dismissed rumors that Carell would return for the finale based on Daniels' comments. The producer is believed to be an individual who tells it like it is and rarely misdirects the audience when it comes to his work on the popular show.

Following Carell's departure from "The Office," the comedy series only lasted two more seasons.

NBC's hit show includes stars such as Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Ed Helms, and Mindy Kaling, among many others. Based on the hit BBC series, "The Office" was created by Greg Daniels, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
