'System Shock' News: Reboot on Hold as Team is Put on Hiatus and Release Date is Delayed

Despite the massive success that game developer Nightdive Studios received in their Kickstarter project for the remake of "System Shock," chief executive officer Stephen Kick has announced that the project has hit a hiatus. Further reports reveal that despite the hiatus, Kick has hurriedly assured the fans by saying that "System Shock" is not being cancelled.

"Ultimately the responsibility for the decisions rests with me," said Nightdive Studios' CEO Kick in a statement. "As the CEO and founder of Nightdive Studios, a company that was built on the restoration of the System Shock franchise, I let things get out of control. I can tell you that I did it for all the right reasons, that I was totally committed to making a great game, but it has become clear to me that we took the wrong path, that we turned our backs on the very people who made this possible, our Kickstarter backers."

Further reports reveal that the decision comes after Kick realized that they have gone too far out of their range as the concept and budget grew. As a result, Kick has decided that it might be best to put the team on hiatus and the development on hold to make way for a reassessment with the hopes that their goals for the reboot of "System Shock" will be clear once they begin again. As such, Kick further emphasized that the "System Shock" reboot is not being cancelled, although he did not reveal as to when the development will pick up again.
