'X-Men: Apocalypse' Rumors: Official Trailer to Debut in October (VIDEO)

Rumors surrounding the "X-Men: Apocalypse" official trailer have pegged its release for the following month, several weeks after the movie's teaser leaked online.

Leaked footage of an "X-Men: Apocalypse" teaser made its rounds online just after it debuted in the San Diego ComicCon Convention in July, followed by another rumor the film's official trailer is due to be released this October.

Speculations have emerged that the trailer for the ninth installment in the "X-Men" movie series will accompany 20th Century Fox's release of "The Martian," starring Matt Damon, which will be premiering in theaters on October 2.

"The Martian," while not a superhero film, is steeped in enough sci-fi elements to consider it a fit launching ground for the first "Apocalypse" trailer.

There has also been talk the official trailer is likely to leak online once more, just as the ComicCon teaser did. However, Fox has yet to confirm the information.

It is also possible the studio is scheduling a second official trailer to launch alongside its upcoming "X-Men" spinoff, "Deadpool," which is hitting theaters on February 12, 2016.

While it hasn't been confirmed whether the trailer will be similar to the teaser released at the ComicCon, it is likely to be a different version as production has had enough time to shoot over a month of additional footage for a whole new version.

With "X-Men: Apocalypse" ending the trilogy that began with "X-Men: First Class," followed by "X-Men: Days of Future Past," the future of the franchise hangs in the balance with no news of another main "X-Men" installment in the offing.

Fox will instead be putting their efforts into promoting its "X-Men" spinoffs, which include "Deadpool," followed by "Gambit" in October 2016, and "Wolverine 3" in March 2017.

"X-Men: Apocalypse," which features an expanded cast of the popular mutant characters, is scheduled to launch in US theaters on May 27, 2016.
