Sarah Palin, the former Republican governor of Alaska who was the Republicans’ 2008 vice presidential nominee, responded to Bondi’s comments in an X post: “no. no. no. no. Pam Bondi is wrong on this one.”

Palin added that she was “looking forward to [Department of Justice] clarification and acknowledgment of 1st Amendment’s fundamental and literal meaning.” A graphic accompanying Palin’s X post stated, “terrible as ‘hate’ speech is, it’s protected in our Constitution.”

After stressing that “the 1st Amendment doesn’t exempt,” Palin expressed hope that the DOJ will realize that in order to restrict any so-called “hate speech” must “fall into an unprotected category” that either “incites,” “provably threatens” or “defames.”
