Women’s History Month: 7 Christian denominations that voted to allow female ordination

The largest Pentecostal denomination in the U.S., the Assemblies of God USA, has been ordaining women to ministry since it was officially established in 1914.

According to the Assemblies, about one-quarter of their clergy are female, with the denomination touting their extensive history of female ministers on their website.

In April 2018, the Assemblies elected Pastor Donna L. Barrett as their first female general secretary for the denomination's General Council.

"Through her service as a church planter, district leader, and general presbyter, Donna has shown humility paired with a special gifting for leadership," stated General Superintendent Doug Clay at the time.

"I've seen God use her time and time again to speak wisdom into difficult circumstances at the district and national level."
