'American Crime' Season 2 News, Update: Brand New Chapter to Tackle Sexuality and Class Warfare

ABC's hit anthology crime TV drama series "American Crime" ended its first season with applause thanks to its "raw, emotional portrayals of diverse characters in dire pain, mashed up with chilling narratives and gusty attitude," the critical consensus from Rotten Tomatoes reads.

Like FX's "American Horror Story" anthology, the second season of "American Crime" will tackle on an entirely new story.

ABC President Paul Lee said in a statement to the press that series creator John Ridley has already submitted his pitch for Season 2.

"It's a total reset, but some of the ... actors are going to come back and play different parts, and it promises to be just as groundbreaking as the first season," he said.

Ridley, meanwhile revealed the theme and issue of the upcoming chapter.

"[In Season 1] we dealt with race and faith; in Season 2 we want to deal a lot more with class," the show runner told TV Line. "We want to deal with gender issues, sexual orientation and sexual identity."

According to the media outlet, the scripted program will also change its setting from North California to "the Midwest" and will feature a different "inciting incident."

"It's going to be a whole different set of circumstances," Ridley went on to reveal. "We're hoping that we can not only make it provocative, but humanize people as well. If there's one thing that American Crime did very well, it took issues that are generally just a headline and put faces on them. I'm hoping we can do that in the second season."

"American Crime" Season 2 is slated to premiere in 2016. Season 1 saw the actors of W. Earl Brown as Thomas Carlin, Felicity Huffman as Barbara Hanlon, and Timothy Hutton as Russ Skokie.
