'Bates Motel' Season Renewal News: A&E Network Orders 2 Additional Seasons of the 'Psycho' Prequel Drama
A&E Network recently announced that it will keep its highly-rated psychological-horror TV drama "Bates Motel" running for business not for one, but two more seasons.
Executive Vice President and General Manager of A&E and Lifetime, Rob Sharenow, has ordered 20 more episodes of the acclaimed scripted program.
"The vision of our incredible creative team has exposed the steady breakdown of the relationship between Norman and Norma Bates," Sharenow said in a statement. "We are thrilled to bring fans two more seasons to witness the next stages of Norman's transformation into the most notorious psychopath in cinematic history."
This move also locks in the show's main character actors Vera Farmiga, as Norma Bates, and Freddie Highmore, as the young Norman. The 2015 Critic's Choice Television Awards recently nominated Farmiga and Highmore as Best Actress and Actor in a Drama Series.
Meanwhile, it will also see the return of Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse as co-creators.
It is not clear, however, if the upcoming fifth season will be the show's last.
"Bates Motel," which also saw the acts of Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, and Nestor Carbonell, is seen as a contemporary origin story of the critically-acclaimed 1960 thriller-horror film by Alfred Hitchcock, "Psycho." The show chronicles Norman Bates' teenage years living at the iconic Bates Motel and his evolution to becoming the infamous murderer.
"Bates Motel" Season 4 is slated to air early in 2016 and will be followed by Season 5 in the early 2017.
